Lavrov Claims US Hesitates to Implement Its Ukraine Peace Proposal

(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed on Monday that the United States is no longer prepared to follow through on its own proposal to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, which had been presented to Moscow during presidential-level talks in Anchorage, Alaska, in August 2025.

Despite agreements reached during the Anchorage meeting, Lavrov said in an interview that the US continues to pursue policies of containment and pressure against Russia. “Besides the fact that they supposedly proposed something regarding Ukraine and we were ready, and now they are not ready, we also do not see any bright future in the economic sphere,” he stated.

Lavrov criticized Washington for imposing sanctions on Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil following what he described as “constructive talks,” and accused the US of conducting a “war” against tankers on international waters. He added that the United States is pressuring partners, such as India, to avoid purchasing Russian energy, replicating previous pressure on Europe, which was forced to buy “exorbitantly priced” American liquefied natural gas.

“Europe has long been banned from buying Russian energy resources. In other words, the Americans have declared their goal of economic dominance,” Lavrov said, asserting that the US is deliberately seeking to dominate global energy routes using measures Russia considers unacceptable.

He emphasized that Moscow is working to safeguard its interests by exploring alternative payment systems and strengthening cooperation with other countries. Lavrov also noted that Washington is attempting to influence Russia’s military-technical and economic relations with strategic partners, including India and other BRICS members. “They are trying to control our trade, investment cooperation, and military-technical ties with Russia's largest strategic partners,” he said.
